James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program
The at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs.
The is a global network of policy research centers. In a complex, changing, and increasingly contested world, the Carnegie Endowment generates strategic ideas and independent analysis, supports diplomacy, and trains the next generation of international scholar-practitioners to help countries and institutions take on the most difficult global problems and safeguard peace.
Gaither Junior Fellows are hired to work as employees at Carnegie in Washington, DC on a full-time basis for 10-12 months. Fellows provide research assistance to scholars working on Carnegie Endowment projects. They have the opportunity to conduct research, contribute to op-eds, papers, reports and books, edit documents, participate in meetings with high-level officials, contribute to congressional testimony and organize briefings attended by scholars, activists, journalists and government officials.
Eligibility
Applicants must be nominated by an official of their university or institution who has been designated for this purpose; at ¹ú²ú¸£Àû¾«Æ·ÍƼö, Gaylena Merritt, Director of Fellowships, is the nominating official.
- Class year: Graduating college seniors or individuals who have graduated within the past academic year. No one will be considered who has started graduate studies (except those who have recently completed a joint bachelor’s/master’s degree program).
- Citizenship: Candidates need not be U.S. citizens if they attend a university located in the United States. However, all applicants must be eligible to work in the United States for 10-12 months from September 1 through at least June 30 following graduation. Students on F-1 visas who are eligible to work in the United States for the full year may apply for the program.
Other eligibility guidelines:
- Applicants should have completed a significant amount of course work related to their discipline of interest. Language and other skills may also be required for certain assignments. The selection process for the program is very competitive. Accordingly, applicants should be of high academic quality.
- Qualifications for Gaither Junior Fellows may vary by program. Please review the campus nomination application materials for program requirements and more details on what each program is looking for.
Davidson Gaither Junior Fellows candidates must apply first through the campus nomination application process during the fall semester. Davidson's nominating committee will select up to two nominees. Nominees will coordinate with Davidson’s designated nominating official to submit final application materials to the Gaither Junior Fellows program. The Gaither Junior Fellows program will not consider direct applications.
